News and Announcements

Please watch your inbox for an important message from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research related to Bayh-Dole Act compliance. A formal acknowledgement will be sent to faculty, graduate students, and certain staff. This certification is required for compliance and must be completed only once during an individual’s UW–Madison employment. We encourage you to share this information with your teams and to complete the acknowledgement promptly upon receipt, or at go.wisc.edu/bayhdole.

RSP issued several updates this week to keep in mind:

  • Some federal agencies have updated their award terms to expand the government’s ability to terminate awards for convenience, reducing recipients’ options for recourse. Although not yet universal, this language is expected to become standard across all federal agencies soon.
  • Beginning Aug. 5, 2026, NASA will require covered individuals to certify completion of Research Security training, and other agencies are following suit. While requirements are being implemented agency by agency, PIs and others on federal awards are encouraged to complete the one‑hour training proactively to avoid future issues.
  • NIH’s new PF5 mechanism supports international research by requiring a single application and issuing separate RF2 awards directly to foreign collaborators rather than using subawards. Guidance and administrative details are still being developed, and more information will follow as NIH releases updates and institutions gain experience.
  • The Office of Legal Affairs is reviewing new USDA award terms, and if future awards include them, acceptance may be delayed while the language is interpreted. Recent federal funding bills maintained agency budgets near previous levels and included provisions limiting F&A policy changes, giving institutions more time to develop long‑term models such as FAIR.

Interested in NIH funding opportunities but not sure where to start? The NIH Matchmaker tool analyzes your research text to identify similar funded projects, relevant NIH Institutes and Centers, program officers and study sections — helping you target the best funding fit quickly and effectively.
Nominations are due March 3, 2026 for the annual Awards for Mentoring Undergraduates in Research, Scholarly and Creative Activities, recognizing faculty members, groups of mentors, academic staff, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students for the outstanding work they do in mentoring undergraduates in their areas of professional activity.

The Boards of Older Adult Advisors (BOAAs) have availability in their 2026 meeting schedules. The BOAAs are two standing community advisory boards of older residents from low-resourced communities. They provide guidance throughout the research process, including on study design, recruiting strategies and materials, data analysis, and dissemination. BOAA meetings are offered on a fee-for-service basis.
