Things You Need to Know From the Office of Research & Scholarship — Sept. 25, 2026

We’re excited to announce that Emily Sanders will be joining the Office of Research & Scholarship team on Oct. 11, 2026, as our new Research Administration Director, working closely with Dorothy Farrar-Edwards to lead the ORS team.

Emily brings more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning research administration, sponsored programs, grant management, compliance and organizational improvement. A Certified Research Administrator and Prosci-certified Change Management Professional, she has extensive experience building teams and systems that support successful sponsored research.

Most recently, Emily served as Grants Manager with The Hastings Center for Bioethics, a research institute in Garrison, New York. Previously, during nine years at Madison College, Emily led a development team that secured approximately $17 million annually in grant funding and supported more than 70 grants and sub-awards.

Emily’s deep expertise and background in building effective, collaborative research-support operations will help ORS continue providing strong, consistent support to researchers while strengthening our research administration infrastructure for the future.

We look forward to welcoming Emily to the ORS team in October.

Congratulations to Emily Arthur in the Art Department, who was recently recognized by the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts & Letters as a 2026 Academy Fellow. Her artwork is found in the Smithsonian Portrait Gallery, Chazen Museum, Saint Louis Museum, and Tweed Museum. Her work is informed by a concern for the environment, exile and return home. Emily’s ongoing research into the early 19th-century engraving chemistry used to publish “The Birds of America” challenges John James Audubon’s natural history images within the context of imperialism, manifest destiny and the narrative of a singular genius.
