Things You Need to Know From the Office of Research & Scholarship — May 22, 2026

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we’re seeing a high volume of anticipated proposal submissions for June and July, particularly for NIH and NSF. This is an important moment to plan ahead to ensure the strongest possible support for your work.

While our team is committed to supporting every proposal, early notice will be key in helping us manage timelines, provide thoughtful feedback, and coordinate resources effectively. If you’re considering a submission this summer, we encourage you to share your plans with us as soon as possible through our form.

A little advance planning now can make a meaningful difference in both proposal quality and the overall process. We’re here to support you every step of the way and are ready when you are.

News and Announcements

Congratulations to the School of Education faculty and staff selected for prestigious awards this spring.

Earlier this week, RSP announced fringe benefit rates from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. Increases or decreases in the rates are due to DHHS’ required methodology for the handling of the previous year’s under- or over-recovery of actual costs. Review the updated rates and full details on the RSP website.

Recently, the U.S. Department of Justice extended the Americans with Disabilities Act’s (ADA) digital accessibility rule compliance deadline from April 24, 2026, to April 26, 2027. While the change provides additional time, it remains a requirement under the ADA and does not change the university’s goals or expectations, as reflected in the updated digital accessibility policy. The Initiative will continue its work as planned, focusing on supporting employees with tools, guidance, and resources. More information and resources are available through the Digital Accessibility Hub.

RSP recently sent out a reminder for all submitting to DOD/DOW, DOE, NASA, NIH, NSF and USDA. If applying to these agencies, please keep the following in mind:

  • Common forms are required and must be created in SciENcv. Senior/key personnel must link their ORCID ID to their eRA Commons profile and in SciENcv.
  • Research Security Training is required for all senior/key personnel within 12 months prior to the submission
A Malign Foreign Talent Recruitment Program certification is required for all senior/key personnel at the time of submission. Annual re-certification is required for funded awards.

The Recruitment and Retention Resource Center at the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) is looking for presenters for a virtual fall workshop series on clinical research participant retention. If you are successful in retaining study participants, consider presenting a brief (10 minutes) or full-length (30-45 minute) talk. Proposals are due June 15. For help developing your talk concept, reach out to recruitmenthelp@ictr.wisc.edu to connect and brainstorm.

This summer, WCER’s SEER Institute will offer two professional development opportunities to share the Faculty Inclusive Teaching Survey (FITS) Guidebook, funded by the National Science Foundation. On June 16 and June 24, SEER will offer webinars to share and synthesize research results from the Inclusive STEM Teaching Project. The team will also walk attendees through elements of the FITS Guidebook, discussing how to use it to advance inclusive instructional practices on campus. On July 16 and 21, the team will offer online workshops that will provide learning experiences to promote your development as an inclusive practitioner. Learn more and register on the SEER Institute website.

Counseling Psychology Summer Institutes provide expert training and networking opportunities for career development facilitators, career counselors, career specialists, advisors, coaches, and virtually anyone involved in career development and workforce readiness. UW–Madison Libraries recently reached an agreement with Wiley to continue covering the costs of publishing in hundreds of open-access (OA) journals through Dec. 31, 2027.
